China. Amulet Charm (1862-1874). CH'ING Tongzhi (1861-1875). AE charm 49x36 mm, 13.14g., CD 1874 Charms with cyclical dates are rare, ex Thomas Olive Mabbott, Gregory Cole Collection. Thomas was an American professor, and researcher of literature -- most famously his study of Edgar Allan Poe, and numismatist (he collected everything from Ancients to Mining tokens). A lot of the material in his collection was probably put together from the 1920's-1930's. Some of the amulets may have been acquired by Mabbott from Ramsden.
