Discontinued. Awarded by the Danish Writers' Association in April. Awarded to "an outstanding Danish poet in recognition of a single collection of poems or for the person concerned's poetry as a whole." As a condition for the award, it is required that the prize recipient, like Emil Aarestrup (1800-1856), has created pure poetry. The prize was established in 1950 (150 years after the birth of Aarestrup) by the Danish Writers' Association's lyricist group. At the 2004 awards, the last medal was awarded.
