Great Britain Bank of England £1000 Stock 1881 London
Stock Receipt of £1000, pin hole in upper left corner, as usual with this type of certs. The £1000 of Bank of England stock was sold here at only 5 shillings. The reason is that 5 shillings was the standard price for a no-value transfer, possibly it was the amount of a transfer tax, or more likely a nominal consideration to make the transfer legally effective from the trustees/executers of the will of the deceased person; VF
