[+ SP]ETIG [:] ON : OXE : cross moline, inward fleur in each angle, 1.44g, 2h (SCBI 12, 264; SCBI 17, 772; SCBI 20 [Mack], 1594 = SNC February 1986, no. 231 same dies; North 873; BMC I; Spink 1278), some softness to the legends as usual for issue, otherwise toned, a really good fine to very fine in parts, scarce.

During the Anarchy, Matilda would use Sweting's skills to produce coinage in her own name. The Accord of Wallingford in 1153 would acknowledge Henry II 'Curtmantle' as the successor to the ailing King Stephen.
