The Owen-Rooke Collection | Henry II 'Curtmantle' (1154-1189), 'Shortcross' Penny, Class Ib1, Class Ib1, 1180-1182, Oxford, Rodbert 'fil B', hENRICVS • R | EX, crowned bust facing, sceptre over shoulder, curls 2/5, rev. + RODBT • F • B • ON • OXEN, voided short cross, cross pommée, 1.33g, 8h (Lainchbury 549 this coin; SCBI 11 [Oxford], 714 same dies; North 963; Spink 1344), slightly crimped otherwise lightly toned, a pleasing very fine, an excessively rare variety in the Shortcross series providing a Moneyer's name and the evident suggestion of a father's name, appearing at auction for the first time in 50 years.
