John 'Lacklands' (1199-1216), Shortcross Pennies (3), Class Vb2, 1205-1209, Durham, Pieres, crowned bust facing, flat-topped R, rev. + PIERES ON DVR, voided short cross, quatrefoil of pellets in angles, 1.16g, 5h, porous and lightly crimped, struck details a bolder fine; another, Class 5b1, struck 1205, London, Beneit, similar, rev. + BENEIT • ON • LVND, 1.54g, 4h (North 970; Spink 1351), slight die capping, otherwise lightly toned, near very fine; lastly, Class 5c, London, Ilger, similar, rev. + ILGER ON LVND, 1.38g, 11h (North 971; Spink 1352), struck with a rusty obverse die, darkly toned with some minor splits, struck details almost very fine (3).
