Charles II (1660-1685), Electrotype of the Celebrated 'Petition' Crown, after Thomas Simon, dated 1663, laureate and draped bust right, simon in script below, rev. crowned revised shields cruciform, Garter at centre, interlinked C's in angles, twelve strings to harp, Simon's 'Humble Petition to His Majesty' in two lines downwards facing on edge, 38.71g, 7h (cf. ESC 429; cf. Spink 3354A), some light bagmarking to the obverse field and a small bruise to the reserve edge at 1 o'clock, the obverse with a somewhat polished appearance nevertheless toned to pleasing dark grey surfaces, extremely fine, and a recent hit with the "Great Engravers" Royal Mint Restrike series.
