(t) CHINA. Ink Chopmarked Dollar, Year 23 (1934). Shanghai Mint. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, AU Details.
L&M-110; K-624; KM-Y-345; WS-0146.Attractively and originally toned with the addition of an unusual stacked rectangular ink chop on the obverse that now shows in an electric purple color, as well as a partial circular black chop on the reverse. While the host Sun Yat-sen Dollar is very common, the growing number of collectors seeking unusual chopmarks should really jump at this opportunity to acquire this intentionally modified piece.
While fading of the ink has hindered full legibility of the obverse chop, a partial interpretation of the characters suggests it was stamped by a private bank or merchant inscribed "Kai Feng __"(Kaifeng [Prefecture]), "Da Cheng Chang" (Dachengchang [Bank]).
Estimate: $400 - $600
