People's Bank of China, a partially hand painted essay for an unadopted design of 2 yuan, 1973, "Wang Jinxi", "Wang Jinxi – The Iron Man"

A socialist hero in the early days of the People's Republic who led the 1205 drilling team in the Daqing Oil Field. His work lead to Daqing becoming China's first rate big oilfield in 3 years. The successful extraction of the oil field came at a time of fuel shortages. Subsequently he was promoted and later became a hero figure. Notably he was known to have jumped into a mud pool blocking a blowout with his body,(Pick unlisted), PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated, previously mounted. Less than 5 designs with Wang Jinxi has ever been seen in the market, making it one of the most important and pinnacle piece in the history of PRC banknotes.
Note this particular piece is in line with the theme of the political idea and culture influence at that time shown on the later issued 1975 series. Each hand painted designs are done by prominent artists at that time, which are then given to the printing press to add in banknote features. The design then had to go through several vigorous stages to formally become issued notes that we see. As time goes by, the uncovering of these historical documents allows us to see a glimpse of the complex and interesting process of creating a banknote..

Estimate: 280000 - 500000
