Ancient coins
Roman Empire
Servius Sulpicius Galba, 68-69 AD, Aureus, Rome, July 68 AD - January 69 AD, Calicó 509, RIC 164, C 286, 7.10 g.

Obverse: IMP. SER. GALBA AVG. Head of Galba, bare, right.

Reverse: S.P.Q.R / OB.C.S. Two-line legend within oak wreath.

Rare, strong portrait.

Galba was born in the year 3 AD, and had served as a commander in upper Germany already under Caligula. During his time as governor of Spain under the reign of Nero he grew greedier and more cruel, failing to secure the support from his own army, and he was beheaded after little more than six months on the throne.
