Aulus Vitellius, 16 April-22 December AD 69, Aureus, Rome, 69 AD, Calicó 543, RIC 72, C 19, 7.23 g.
Obverse: A. VITELLIVS GERMAN. IMP. TR. P. Laureate head of Vitellius right.
Reverse: CONCORDIA P. R. Concordia seated left, holding patera and double cornucopia.
Some surface marks, otherwise almost EF, of good style, rare and with an illustrious pedigree.
As a favourite of both Caligula, Claudius and Nero, Vitellius achieved many important offices and priesthoods, though he did not always perform them honourably, in fact the Roman historian Suetonius described him as being "Stained by every sort of baseness as he advanced in years."
