Titus Aurelius Fulvus Boionius Antoninus Pius, 138-161 AD, Aureus, Rome, 147 AD, Calicó 1653, RIC 147a, C 936, 7.15 g, scratches in fields, nicked, surface marks
Obverse: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P. Bare head right.
Reverse: TR POT COS IIII. Roma seated left, holding palladium and spear; shield leaning against throne.
Antoninus seemed to have earned the honorific name "Pius" due to his filial duty towards his adoptive father, Hadrian, whom he had declared a god after his death. He ruled justly and compassionately, and the empire enjoyed peace during his reign.
