Marcus Didius Julianus, 28th March – 1st June 193 AD, Aureus, Rome, 193 AD, Calicó 2399 (R2), RIC 3, 6.66 g.
Obverse: IMP. CAES. M. DID. IVLIAN. AVG. Laureate head right.
Reverse: RECTOR. ORBIS. Didius Julianus standing left, holding globe and scroll.
A lustrous and extremely fine example of this very rare and important issue.
Didius Julianus only survived 66 days on the throne before he was killed by a soldier from the Praetorian guard, the same military elite units that had brought him to power as the highest bidder in an "auction" following the death of Pertinax.
