KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great'. 336-323 BC. AR Tetradrachm (24mm, 17.06 g, 4h). Babylon mint. Struck under Stamenes or Archon, circa 324/3 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; monogram above strut of throne, M below; [symbol to left or in exergue?]. Cf. Price 3599 (same obv. die as illustration); Waggoner obv. die unlisted. Good Fine, toned, a few nicks on reverse, scuff at Zeus' torso.

Although this coin was struck from the same obverse die as Price 3599, Waggoner's die study shows that obverses were used in combination with reverse dies that have a variety of symbol combinations. Thus, the reverse die used here may have a symbol in the left field or in the exergue, both of which would be off the flan on this coin.
