BLACK SEA REGION, Uncertain. 5th century BC. Æ (45mm, 32.95 g). Four-spoked wheel / Blank. Unpublished in the standard references, but see CNG E-303, lot 9 and CNG E-132, lot 22 for other examples. VF, green patina.
The fact that this piece is uniface, has no ethnic or civic emblems, and is holed (as were the examples we sold previously) suggests that it was not manufactured as a coin, but rather some kind of ornament or good luck charm using the apotropaic wheel/astral symbol popular in the Black Sea.
