MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (19mm, 8.55 gm, 12h). NGC Choice AU 4/5 - 4/5, die shift. Early posthumous issue of Magnesia ad Maeandrum, ca. 305-297 BC. Head of Athena right, hair flowing wildly behind, wearing beaded necklace and triple-crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, short divergent crest ends, the bowl decorate with coiled serpent right / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Nike standing facing, head left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; lion seated right in left field, A in wreath in left field below wing. Price -, cf. 1985A (drachm). Apparently unpublished and no examples in sales archives. Firmly struck from high-relief, artistic dies. Quite appealing in hand.
