BITHYNIA. Cius. Ca. 350-300 BC. AV stater (15mm, 8.49 gm, 1h). NGC VF 4/5 - 5/5. Agathocles, magistrate, ca. 340-330 BC. Laureate head of Apollo right / AΓAΘO / KΛHΣ, prow of galley left, ornamented with star; eagle standing left, wings closed to left, horizontal club right above. Waddington, Recueil Général des Monnaies Grecques d'Asie Mineure, p. 311, 1, pl. XLIX, 1 (same dies) = Traité II, 2850, pl. CLXXX, 1 (same dies); BMC -. HGC 7, 550 var. (unlisted magistrate). Extremely rare apparently with only three known examples, and only two from this magistrate in sale archives. This specimen was struck on a lovely goldenrod semi-matte flan.
