Leopold I gold 100 Francs 1853 AU Details (Altered Surfaces) PCGS, Brussels mint, KM-XM3.1, Fr-409, Dupriez-538 (R1). Hyphen between dates, lettered edge variety. Mintage: 482. By L. Wiener. Struck to commemorate the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Brabant. An attractive single-year type produced for and distributed at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Brabant. While lightly handled as evidenced by gentle friction to the highpoints and wisps throughout, the eye appeal of this expansive piece is undeniable; the surfaces having mellowed to a pleasing hue of gold elevated by subtle flashes upon illumination. With so few of these extant, we anticipate ample collector interest for this difficult type.
