João V gold 12800 Reis (Dobra) 1732-M MS63 NGC, Minas Gerais mint, KM139, LMB-288. The largest gold type of the Brazilian duodecimal system and the second largest gold coin struck in the country, just behind the 20,000 Réis from the Dobrão series. Struck in Vila Rica (today Ouro Preto), this imposing issue depicts a highly detailed bust of Joao V, alongside an iconic Portuguese shield. Crisply rendered and impressively lustrous, this conditionally challenging type is seldom-seen in this superior Choice Mint State condition, with only a single MS64 being recorded by the two major grading services.
