Edward III (1327-1377) gold Noble ND (1356-1361) MS64 NGC, Tower mint, Cross 3 mm, Fourth coinage, Tre-Treaty Period, Sieres G, S-1490, N-1181. 7.70gm. Є x | DWΛRD x DЄI x GRΛ x RЄX x ΛIIGL x F (retrograde) x FRΛIIC x D hy | B (annulet stops), Edward standing facing in ship, shield in left hand, sword in right / +IhC x ΛVTЄm x TRΛIICIЄIIS x P x mЄDIVm x ILLORVm x IBΛT (annulet stops), large floriate cross with Є at center, crowned lions in angles, all within polylobe with trefoils in spandrels. Among the earliest gold types of England available to collectors and desirable as such, especially in decidedly Mint State assignments approaching Gem status. While the usual doubling is present throughout the piece, all details remain fully discernible with impressive depth. Only two examples submitted to NGC are ranked higher, making this a rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest Pre-Treaty Edwardian Nobles extant.
