Parma. Ferdinando di Borbone gold 8 Doppie 1786-S AU Details (Graffiti) PCGS, KM-C22a, Fr-926. A fairly original example of this sought-after and quite hefty Italian issue. From a balanced strike, the surfaces were rendered with an even sharpness throughout, still appreciable despite the minor highpoint wear commonly seen in broad gold issues. The antique-gold tone is infused with appreciable coppery-amber hues in the crevices. Minimally noticeable are the marks the grade qualifier refers to: apparently the letter V and X, flanking the crown, perhaps the initials of a previous, proud owner of this coveted issue along its over 200 years of history.
