PETRVS ALEXII FIL D G RVSS IMP M DVXMOSCOVIÆ Laureate bust right // Eagle in nest with three of her young, looking to radiant sun above, flanked by branches; in exergue ANNO 1717 D / 20 DEZ. A splendid specimen of a type very seldom encountered in gold, last appearing at a major auction in 2008. Finely rendered devices present in a Junoesque fashion, projecting into the viewer's space with confidence and class. Evidence of some handling, in addition to other friction in the fields, preclude a finer designation, but the overall appeal of this piece cannot be contested.
