Confederation Specimen 2 Francs 1857-B SP62 NGC, Bern mint, KM10, HMZ-2-1201b. From a mintage of a mere 662 pieces, this selection hails from one of the rarest Swiss emissions of the 19th century. The offering is bathed in an allover champagne patina, which imparts a heavenly aura to the expertly detailed motif of Helvetica on the obverse. Just a handful of marks can be identified amongst otherwise neat and assured fields, hardly a distraction from the piece's overall impact. With only two examples auctioned in recent memory, not to mention the historical significance of this issue ushering in Bern's manufacture of modern coinage, there will be no lack of attention when this lot crosses the block.
