Julius Caesar, as Dictator Perpetuo (ca. February-March 44 BC), with Publius Sepullius Macer, as Moneyer. AR denarius (18mm, 3.94 gm, 8h). NGC XF 5/5 - 3/5, bankers mark. Rome. CAESAR-DICT PERPETVO, veiled, wreathed head of Julius Caesar right / P•SEPVLLIVS downward on right, MACER downward on left, Venus standing facing, head left, Victory left in right hand, scepter in left; shield at feet behind. Crawford 480/13. Sydenham 1074. Julia 50 and Sepullia 5. Popular lifetime issue with veiled portrait of Caesar displaying his piety. Incredibly even, dark cabinet toning throughout.

This series of coins containing the "DICT PERPETVO", or Dictator in Perpetuity, in conjunction with his lifetime portrait, is considered by historians as the coins that killed Caesar. Around a month after this legend was minted, Julius Caesar was assassinated by the Senate in the Theater of Pompey.
