Trajan (AD 98-117). AV aureus (19mm, 6.84 gm, 7h). NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 4/5. Rome, ca. AD 112-113. IMP•TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Trajan right, seen from behind / BASILICA VLPIA, octastyle façade of the Basilica Ulpia; series of statues above the colonnade from center moving outwards: quadriga facing, soldiers standing to left and right, bigas facing to left and right, two signa to the far left and right, flat roof with ornaments above the statutes. Calicó 988 (same dies). RIC II 247. Nicely centered with attractive flow lines on this rare architectural issue.

The Basilica Ulpia was completed circa AD 112 and located in Trajan's Forum. It was a civic building used for the administration of commerce, justice, and the presence of the emperor.
