George IV Proof "Barton's Metal" Reverse Uniface Trial Sovereign ND (1825) PR64 NGC, cf. W&R-235 (for reverse), Marsh-10D (same, R5) . Edge plain, struck in gold-electrolyzed copper also known as "Barton's metal", so-called after the Deputy Comptroller of the Mint, John Barton. These uniface examples are extremely rare and keenly collected pieces that bear testament Barton's efforts to modernize and improve the production methods and machinery at the Royal Mint. A beautifully presented offering with pin-point sharp engraved motifs and softly reflective, tangerine fields.
