Leon. Provisional "Imitation Cob" 4 Reales 1823 PM-PY XF Details (Reverse Scratched) NGC, Leon mint, KM16.3 (under Honduras), Jara p.33. 12.78gm. A very rare and fascinating "Moneda Provisional" issue that aimed at imitating Bolivian silver cobs of the 18th century. This 4 Reales denomination, specifically, is incredibly scarce as less than a handful have come up at auction in recent history. All of the important lettering and design motifs are visible and almost all of them are crystal clear too. The light gray patina is mostly smooth and even. The scratch bringing about the details notation blends relatively well with the rest of the reverse and it is also, and thankfully, located away from the central focus areas. A superb offering.
