Charles III 8 Reales 1780 LM-MJ MS61 NGC, Lima mint, KM78, Cal-1046. The second-finest piece at NGC, wrapped in a subtle patina of teal, lemon, and caramel that is emboldened by immense luster still gripping the reverse. A standout specimen in quality, made even more desirable by its provenance. The piece at hand is pedigreed to the Upper Sackville Hoard, uncovered in Halifax County, Nova Scotia in June of 1959. This is confirmed by an epistolary correspondence between Canadian numismatist Major Sheldon Carroll and J.A.M. Woodside that details the acquisition in 1960.
