Catherine II Kopeck 1796 XF45 Brown PCGS, KM-Unl., cf. Bit-H949 (for Novodel), Brekke-11. Reeded edge. An especially scarce emission from Catherine's "Cipher" series, struck over earlier St. George types with clear evidence of the host details throughout. A late attempt by Catherine at monetary reform, struck during the last year of her life, remaining one of only a handful to escape into circulation. Those few original strikings are usually found in comparable states of preservation and endure as a favorite of Russian numismatists.
