MON NO AVR C IA CVR REG Date 1 622 in field besides standing St. Luke, holding orb in right hand and staff with globe in left hand // FER II IM SEMP AVGHVST Double-headed imperial eagle with crowned large cross between both necks. Slightly rose-gold in hue, struck on a well-rounded planchet with a crack at 8 o'clock. Based on a Goldgulden of the Swiss city of Chur and very rare.
The Maccagno county, situated in Lombardy, had been in possession of the Mandelli family since 960 when it became an Imperial Fief by Emperor Otto the Great. The present offering was issued in the name of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II. The ruler of Maccagno at the time was Giacomo III Mandelli, who had received the privilege to mint coins in from the Emperor to mint coins in its fief.
