Rome, Jacob Cornelisz Cobaert (fl. 1568-1610), after a design by Guglielmo della Porta, Dance of the Bacchantes, bronze oval plaque, the scene set within woodlands and flanked by musicians, 137 x 242mm (Planiscig (1919), 399; cf. Bange 13), pierced, an extremely fine contemporary cast with dark patina Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection, Paris [inventory number 169 in red on reverse]; ex Galerie Denis Dervieux, Paris. This forms part of a set of mythological scenes based on Ovid's Metamorphoses. An example of this plaque is in the V&A, London and another was sold in these rooms, 14 December 2015, lot 170.
