After Alessandro Algardi (1595-1654), The Martyrdom of St Paul, bronze-gilt plaquette, the decapitation of St. Paul with his executioner on the left having wielded his sword, and a kneeling female figure on the right, 100 x 86mm (Scaglia XIII.12), very fine early cast but cut down to rectangular shape with domed top (as is the Scaglia example) Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection, Paris [inventory number 58 in red on reverse]; ex Beaussant Lefèvre, Paris, 19 June 1998, lot 136. There is a fine fully circular example of this plaquette in the V&A (A.68-1952).
