Italian (late 16th century), workshop of Guglielmo della Porta, attributed to Sebastiano Torrigiani, The Pietà, bronze-gilt pax, the Virgin supporting the dead body of Christ, a ladder propped against the base of the cross in the background and with instruments of the Passion in the foreground; set within an integrally cast frame with cherubs heads above and below, scrollwork and acanthus leaves on either side; the back with an affixed plate with marks of where a stand has been removed, 148 x 100mm (cf. Warren, Ashmolean, p. 805, fig. 299), pierced four times and with stand removed from reverse, some wear to the gilding, an extremely fine contemporary cast Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection, Paris; Ex Morton and Eden, 25th November 2021, Lot 1055; and Cyril Humphris collection, Sothebys New York, 11 Jan. 1995, lot 289.
