Italian (late 16th century), The Pieta, bronze gilt pax, Christ's body supported by the Virgin and two children, set within an architectural frame with fluted pillars to the sides, scrollwork, the top centred with a cherub's head and the base with a cartouche inscribed PIETAS AD OMNIA, 170 x 120mm (for the frame type see Imbert pl. XVIII, 2), with stand crudely attached to the reverse which shows repair work, especially to a crack across the base of the entablature, otherwise a very fine early cast Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection, Paris [inventory number 223 in red on the reverse]. The Imbert pax contains a Moderno Pieta image.
