Germany, Meister des Nürnberger Rathausputto, workshop of Pankraz Labenwolf (16th century), Thalia, bronze plaquette, Thalia, the muse of comedy, as a putto, standing on a lawn, flanked by trees; incised THA-LIA; all within rectangular frame, 66 x 45mm and internal dimensions of frame, 54 x 37mm (Weber 71.8), with a wide border outside the frame, pierced, a very fine contemporary cast Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection, Paris [inventory number 113 in red on reverse]. From a series of small plaquettes depicting the nine muses as putti. This image of Thalia was copied by Joseph de Levis on the side of a bronze mortar (Avery (2016), 25 and fig. 80).
