Germany, Augsburg (17th century), The Virgin and Child with the Evangelist St. John, silver plaquette, the Virgin seated on the left, holding the Christ-Child who holds out a branch to the kneeling figure of St John; on the ground is a chalice with a serpent emerging from it, and a lizard; in the background are a ruin, rocks, trees and a town in the distance; marked (lower right) for Augsburg, 1629-1732, maker's mark of Hans Petrus III (1621-72) 106 x 72mm (cf. Bange (1923) 5701 in oval form), twice pierced, extremely fine contemporary cast Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection, Paris [inventory number 220 in red on reverse]; ex Galerie Sismann, Paris, 2016.
