Andrea Briosco, called Riccio (c. 1470-1532), The Entombment, bronze trapezoidal plaquette, Christ's body is held by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus while the Virgin holds His pierced side and Mary Magdalene kneels at His feet; five further figures are in anguish across the background and a mourning angel sits beside the sarcophagus, 60.5 x 104mm (Molinier 223; Planiscig p. 286, fig. 330), pierced and plugged in the corners and with a casting flaw at lower right, the reverse with three long sprues, a very fine contemporary cast, very rare Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection, Paris [inventory number 52 in red on reverse, 49 in white and two other markings in red].
