Giovanni Bernardi (1496-1553), Apollo and Marsyas, bronze plaquette, Marsyas seated, playing a pipe; Apollo stands before him with lyre and leaning on column, 49.8 x 40.6mm (Donati (1989) p. 216/b and (2011) p. 51 for the intaglio; Molinier 342; Kress 291, fig. 336; Morgenroth 308; Scaglia VIII.8), extremely fine contemporary cast with brown patina Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection, Paris [Inventory number 183 in red on reverse]; ex Oger & Camper, Paris, 17 October 2011, lot 119 part. The original intaglio is in the Grand Ducal collection in Florence and the plaquette reproduces it in specular form.
