ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ ΤΡΑΙ ΑΔΡΙΑ ϹЄΒ, laureate head to right, slight drapery on far shoulder / HΛ[IO]Π, radiate Helios standing facing, head to left, holding Mnevis bull in outstretched right hand and with whip cradled in left arm. RPC III 6487; Dattari (Savio) 6246; K&G N14.1; Emmett 1234.11. 3.48g, 19mm, 12h.

Near Very Fine. Rare.

Likely struck for Hadrian's decennalia, this coin forms part of the 'nomes series' coinage that began under Domitian and ended with Antoninus Pius. These types celebrated each of the individual nomes (districts) that Egypt had been divided into, this particular example depicting the Heliopolite nome who's capital was the city of Heliopolis. It therefore depicts Helios, the Greek god into which the Egyptian solar deities Atum and Ra-Harakhte had been assimilated, and who's temples stood in the capital city.
