Il 27 luglio 1799, il Generale Valterre, per rappresaglia contro i rivoltosi che avevano abbattuto l'albero della libertà e sparato contro una colonna dell'esercito francese comandata dal Gen.le Kellerman, ordinò il saccheggio e l'incendio della città. Morirono 82 ronciglionesi tra cui quattro canonici e due sacerdoti e vennero distrutti 174 edifici. Ex Numismatica Bassani di Faenza 8.9.2001 £ 3.600.000. July 27th, 1799 General Valterre, after the rebels cut down the freedom tree and shot on the column of the French army led by Gen. Kellerman, ordered the sack and arson of the city in retaliation. 82 people from the town of Ronciglione died, including 4 canons and 2 priests, 174 building were destroyed by the fire.
