NAPOLI Ferdinando IV di Borbone (1759-1799) Piastra da 120 Grana 1787 - MIR 370/3 AG (g 24,95) R Tondello di ottima qualità, ma di peso inferiore. Alcune monete in argento coniate a ridosso degli anni 90' presentano un peso assolutamente fuori norma. Anche i punzoni sembrano leggermente modificati per rappresentare tutti gli elementi su un tondello più piccolo, il che fa pensare ad una truffa ben congegnata con il necessario intervento del Mastro di zecca. Il peso calante era un metodo "truffaldino" che gli zecchieri mettevano in atto per lucrare su 3/4 grammi che non venivano usati nella fabbricazione dei tondelli. I tondelli vergini che provenivano dalla laminazione di una lastra di argento erano tagliati con diametro inferiore, erano poi coniati al taglio con la treccia (non nel caso di questo tondello dove la treccia manca e il bordo presenta rigature oblique) e infine erano inseriti sotto al bilanciere per la coniazione. Ecco spiegato come alcune partite erano create con tondelli più piccoli di peso calante. Si tratta ovviamente di monete più rare delle controparti a peso pieno.
