CHINA. Inner Mongolia. Meng Chiang. Fen, Year 738 (1943). World War II Japanese Occupation Issue. NGC AU-58.
KM-Pn1. Struck in aluminum. Uses the Kublai Khan dating system. Commonly mislabeled as a pattern. This is in fact a currency issue struck in Japan for use in occupied Inner Mongolia. Due to maritime transportation problems during World War II, the shipment containing the majority of this mintage never arrived. It is believed that the ship carrying nearly the entire mintage was torpedoed by allied submarines. Since the cargo was lost, very few examples of this issue have survived. EXTREMELY RARE and historically significant, reportedly only about twelve examples known. NGC AU-58.

Ex: Dr. Norman Jacobs Collection.
