An Arabic imitation (?).
Pseudo-Imperial coinage. In name of Justinian I, solidus, uncertain mint after 668, AV 4.52 g. D N IVSTINI – ANVS DD VI Helmeted, pearl-diademed and cuirassed bust facing three-quarters r., holding spear and shield with horseman and enemy motif. Rev. VICTORV – LVTIS Cross potent on base and three steps; in r. field, E and below, CONOB. For obverse type, cf. DO 3. Sear 1 and for reverse type, cf., DO 5. Sear 942. Cf. NAC Spring sale 2000, 1278 (these dies).
Of the highest raity, apparently the second specimen known. A very enigmatic imitation.
Struck from a rusty obverse die and with severaledge marks,
otherwise good very fine / about extremely fine
