Decadrachm unsigned by Euainetos circa 400, AR 41.85 g. Fast quadriga driven l. by charioteer, holding reins and kentron; in field above, Nike flying r. to crown him. In exergue, display of military harness set on two steps. Rev. ΣΥ – Ρ – Α – Κ – ΟΣΙΩΝ Head of nymph Arethusa (Kore-Persephone) l., wearing barley-wreath, triple pendant earring and beaded necklace; in r. field, shell. Around, three dolphins, while a fourth makes dorsal contact with neck truncation. Boston, MFA 429 (these dies). SNG ANS 373 (this obverse die). Gallatin RXIV/FIX.
A very appealing specimen of this desirable issue. A portrait of excellent style struck
in high relief and a lovely light iridescent tone. Unobtrusive areas of porosity on
reverse, otherwise extremely fine
