(x) East African Currency Board, East Africa error 10 Shillings/5 Shillings, Mombasa, 15th December 1921, serial number A/10 26188, blue-black and brown, portrait of King George V at lower right, value of ten shillings in words and figures, reverse brown, value of five shillings in words and figures, lion and Mount Kenya at centre,, (Pick 14, BNB 210) in PMG holder 10 NET Very Good, edge & internal damage, rust, sold with a fascinating letter (dated 30th October 1952) from Messrs. T. De La Rue Ltd. explaining the circumstances surrounding the error, and a letter from the East African Currency Board (dated 3rd November 1952), however not realising the note is an error! The word 'rare' can be used all too often, but this really is the rarest of all error types on a very rare note. It is one of perhaps two in existence (coincidentally the other example also sold by Spink) and we would not advise waiting for another to appear any time soon!.

Estimate: £3000 - £5000
