CHINA--MISCELLANEOUS. D.E. Woodhull, Chinese Vignettes Presentation Workbook, hand dated 22.7.1916.

A medium octavo format presentation/workbook album that is the most comprehensive we have handled with American Banknote Company Chinese note vignette designs. A total of 71 vignettes are included with nearly each mounted on individual pages. Loose leaf format black pebbled covers, gilt stamped cover owner and title. Overall 115mm wide by 180mm tall. Significant syngraphic research has been accomplished within, on opposing yellow post notes with attributions to notes and other facets. Some of this data is perhaps unpublished. Die proof vignettes are engraved India paper impressions on cut down original cards; most still titled. All bold renditions. Mr. (Daniel) Woodhull was a significant ABN executive for several decades.

Examination of the book tours vignettes on many great rarities. A portrait vignette of Emperor Huang-ti which graces the rare 1912-13 series Bank of China notes is the first page. Yuan Shih-Kai is seen in three different impressions being also found on only rare banknotes. 10 vignettes utilized on the elusive Ta-Ching Government bank series of 1909 are found with face and back vignettes observed. Ornate bordered vignette of Li Yuan-Hung whose portrait appears on the highly rare 1917 Bank of China series. Several pages of important Chinese building and landmarks. Vignette of ''Worthy'' standing as seen used on the Commercial Bank of China 1920 series among many. Examination is most recommended and the uniqueness cannot be overstated. The demand for individual Chinese die proof vignettes has been strong. Here is a case where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Very Fine.
