JAPAN. Great Japanese Government. 5 Yen, Meiji Yr. 37 (1904). P-M5b.
Without serial number. This spectacular piece is just the third we have handled for the catalog number and shows in a larger format similar to the other Yen denominated notes in the series. Light blue-gray under-prints and bordering design with black primary design. Facing cockerels at top center and dragons below. Back shown with text at the left and right margins and ovular design at center and red circular seal below. The note is by far the finest we have handled and likely among the best available. The two previous examples we sold brought $6,572 and $9,775 for a PMG Extremely Fine 40 Net and raw About Uncirculated note respectively. This Choice Uncirculated piece shows with pleasing centering and margins with only a small annotation at upper left to mention. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
