Great Britain, copper Admiral Vernon medal, (ca. 1739), Vernon / naval scene, very rare, ex-Adams (plate), ex-Craige. AC-NLv1A. 27.53 grams; 40 mm. With high-relief bust of Vernon and high copper content (XRF: 97.68% copper), this is a traditional medal and not from the pinchbeck Vernon series, which it logically precedes since it depicts Vernon's fleet leaving England on the reverse. Dark chocolate UNC, probably the finest of only four reported to exist. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag), plated on page 38 of Medallic Portraits of Admiral Vernon (2010), by Adams and Chao, and to the Ted Craige Collection.
Estimate: 500 - 1000 USD
