Great Britain, copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, (ca. 1739), Vernon / Argyll, very rare, ex-Adams (plate). AC-NLv4D. 17.29 grams; 40 mm. AU with light brassy luster around details, coppery spot above Argyll's head on reverse, unique type in the series for having a Latin legend NON . DORMIT . QUI . VINCIT ("he who conquers does not sleep") on obverse. XRF: 39.48% copper, 53.07% zinc, 6.33% lead. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag), plated on page 39 of Medallic Portraits of Admiral Vernon (2010), by Adams and Chao, acquired from Jim King in 1984.
