Great Britain, copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1739, Vernon / Porto Bello, extremely rare, ex-Adams. AC-PBv18N. 20.67 grams; 39 mm. Dark AU with lighter high points (from wear) on reverse, the portrait of Vernon in higher relief than on most, a medal so rare that Adams-Chao reports just one known (and unknown to McCormick-Goodhart), but Adams' tag says "sharper than my Finn example" in reference to a piece we sold in Auction 27 as a single-known "discovery piece." XRF: 53.73% copper, 40.54% zinc, 4.14% lead. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag).
Estimate: 500 - 1000 USD
